The Story of the Boy Who Cried Wolf, Except This Time the Wolf was Real

Tuesday was Enrichment Night at church, the subject was gardening. I wanted to go, sort of. I always have a hard time leaving my house in the evening. As much as I sometimes want a night out I really just want to be with Mike and the kiddos and just finally relax at the end of what is usually a relentless day. Jane had stake girl's volleyball that she left at 6 ish for with her friend, I was supposed to pick up. I was feeling a little anxious because I had planned on running during preschool and preschool was cancelled due to Carrie having a sick baby. I'm getting a little nervous about the mileage I need to start running in order to get ready for a relay I'm doing in June. Although I had done a short workout in the a.m. more than going to Enrichment I just really wanted to run. It was a beautiful evening and I just wanted to be outside. Mike stayed home to watch the kids and I headed out to the trail for five miles. When I returned home Sadie was laying beside Mike on the...

Sadie keeps me humble, unintentionally and other goings on

Sunday morning- "Mom? You're making a big breakfast? What holiday is it?" After Mike jokingly smacked my leg while we were sitting on the couch and I yelped. "Mom, that must have hurt. Look (pointing to my thigh) your leg is already swollen." The past few weeks (since just before Christmas) have been a little unsettling in the housing department. The owners of the home that we are in have been trying to sell off and on for about 3 years. Well there is a couple that are seriously considering it and we have been requested to allow them into the home about 4 times now. Each time for about two hours. One of the times we were told it was just going to be the termite inspector. The house was somewhat straightened but Mike and I had both had the flu along with Sawyer and Ellyn was on day one of antibiotics for strep throat. I was in my p.j.'s (Sweats, so they kind of work) and I had brushed my teeth but not my hair. The buyers, the realtor, the inspector, t...

Our Exciting Week of Words

First, a cute little story. I should make an acronym- CLS or CS. A few months ago, the same day we got our cat, I decided to finally follow through and get Ellyn some fish. Fish tanks were on sale at the pet store and if anyone knows me well they know that I have an amazing ability to put things off for months at a time (I had wanted to get Ellyn a fish for her birthday, you know, Valentine's Day). So... along with cat food I bought a tank, rocks, water treatment, goldfish food and two little goldfish. Sadie and Jane, with much giggling at their own cleverness, have affectionately named the fish Joe and Cody (you know our two yorkies we rehomed last year when we moved in, no I never blogged about it. It was painful for the girls and embarrassing as we let go of yet two more dogs. However it was necessary for this dreamy and safe house that we love). I digress. Ellyn loves spending time at the tank watching her two little fish (we have two snails now too but I don't thi...

Our Sadie turned 8 on May 28th!!!

Sadie was our little miracle baby. Have I said that before? Maybe. But... she was and she still is a blessing from Heaven (sometimes, like right now when she is arguing with her sister, I have to remind myself of this). Sadie is a ray of sunshine with her white blond hair and her infectious smile. She keeps things lively, mostly in a good way:-). This month, as her baptism date quickly approached, we had the opportunity to listen to Sadie share her testimony and her knowledge of the gospel. She is a remarkable girl with a very sure knowledge of the love of her Heavenly Father. Before too much time passes and the memory is blurred I need to record the testimony that Sadie shared in testimony meeting at the beginning of June. In May Sadie bore her testimony for the first time in Sacrament Meeting. Mike has always been very strict about the children going up. He feels they really need to have an understanding of what they are doing before they bear their testimony. Hence, this w...

Sadie Jean

Sadie, it's been awhile since we've done this. How have you been? Sadie- Excellent. I'm starting my "Faith in God" book and it makes me really happy. Mom, I'm going out to my secret garden to pray. Me- In a minute, I'm not done. Sadie- Mom, I'm working on my goal and praying is more important than a dinnerview (yes). Me- What other goals are you working on. Sadie- I'm trying to write down my testimony so I can tell it in church. You're never too young or too old, unless you are a baby of course. I'm trying to make Lucifer upset by being good because I really want to see Heavenly Father and Jesus again. Me- That sounds like a good plan. So what have you been learning about in church lately? Sadie- Prayers, scriptures, what we should be doing to go back to Heaven, Joseph Smith, his vision, John the Baptist. He was born when his mom was really old. Nobody believed that she could have a baby but God wanted her to. Me- Is there anything ...

Blue Skies Smilin' at Me

My sister is here for one more day. She is loved. You want to know why? She came down to see blue skies (and us of course). It rained the whole week before she came, it has been sunny the entire week she has been here, rain is forecasted for the 10 days after she leaves. God must know that a woman that is 8 months pregnant with her 5th child and is longing for a little sun needs it. We have played hard every day, any surprise there? No. Meags brought her two youngest, Wil and Hazel, and the little cousins have loved being together. Sawyer idolizes Wil. Hazel can't get enough of Jane and her make up. The swing set we traded our old washer for has come in mighty handy. It is set up in our courtyard, taking up a great deal of space, but well worth it. Wil, Sadie, Hazel, and Sawyer have spent hours playing outside in our beautiful weather. Story- yesterday Isabella and I took Ellie out on her walk. Ellyn seemed excited until we started walking and then she was teary and t...

Bambi on Ice

Today Sadie went to a birthday party at the roller skating rink. It was the birthday of my running buddy's daughter, Olivia. It wasn't the shortest party ever, luckily we had three hours at the rink. The first hour was spent trying desperately to keep Sadie on her feet. I have never seen long skinny arms and legs flail in so many directions. Not to mention the painful sound of elbows, knees, and butt bones (there is no padding there) smacking into hardwood floors. However, after the first hour I am pleased to say Sadie finally started getting the hang of it. She only fell on average one and a half times per lap around the rink. She was determined, she broke only for a quick bite of hot dog and for cake (gifts to be opened later). She had a blast. I skated slowly along behind or at arm's length (so she wouldn't lean over onto me which would cause her to begin falling as her skates turned haphazardly in a counterclockwise sort of direction thus resulting in Sad...

My Kids Make Me Laugh, They Make Me Happy

The other day I was up really early, I can't remember why. I was in the kitchen and Jane walked in and gave me a hug. She was smiling and kind of laughing. I asked her what was up and why she was awake. She said that Sadie kept laughing in her sleep and it woke her up. Then she heard Sadie giggle and say (in her sleep mind you), "I don't think blue hair was a good idea." Last night was our ward Christmas party. Jane played a solo on her flute, "The First Noel." She did a beautiful job, so calm playing for over 200 people. I am so excited with her progress and love of the flute. We played little Christmas duets (me on the piano) for about 40 minutes yesterday afternoon. Ellyn was watching a movie, but she kept coming over and pulling my head toward her and giving me big smooches right on the mouth. It was so cute and I loved it, but I also knew after a few such kisses that she had a motive. Ellyn gives kisses when she doesn't want you doing w...

Getting Sadie dressed this morning

"Sadie, let's see if these pants from Old Navy fit you yet." Sadie puts them on, they are size 8 but they are too long, size 7's are too short. "Mom, these are waaay too long." "You're right, you can wear that jean skirt that fits you now today, okay?" BIG mistake adding that last word. "Mom, if I wear that skirt I will not be able to spread my knees apart like this (demonstrating) and it will be hard to play at recess." "Okay, you can wear these cute capris that Haleigh gave you (we just inherited some clothes from a friend)." Sadie puts them on. "Mom, they did not make these pants with room for your knees. Look, I can not even bend my legs." Shrugs them half way off till her knees are in the thigh area. "Look mom, this is the amount of room your knees should have." "Sadie, put these jeans on now (different pair) and get over here so I can curl your hair." "Mom, hot sweaty pants?...

World According to Sadie

What's up Sadie? Sadie: I'm watching a movie. Castaways. It's about these people traveling, trying to find their father who everyone thinks is dead. What did you do today that was exciting? Sadie:Well, I got two small littlest pet shops. Why? Sadie: Because I did like a thousand levels of swordplay on the wii and my arms were numb from doing it and dad forced me to do it. Was dad going to beat you or something? Sadie: He said I had to do it. Why? Sadie: Because I was getting really good at it. I see, anything else exciting? Sadie: I got registered for school. Are you pretty happy about that? Sadie: I'm happy... and nervous. Anything else you want to share? Sadie: I'm getting a present for my mom and my sister and me to share for their birthdays. I've got to wrap it in some present paper. Something's weird because it just was Halloween and it is almost Halloween. I'm really sad because Camille (the girl down the street) is gone on vacation and I miss...
