Sawyer visits with Santa

Christmas Eve isn't too late! Soy Bean climbed right up onto Santa's lap and gave him a huge hug. It was the cutest thing ever! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Seventeen years ago this morning we were arriving at the Portland temple to be married for time and all eternity. I was so nervous and so excited. You were so handsome and I couldn't believe you were going to be MINE. Michael, I love you more than I ever thought possible all those years ago, back when I couldn't imagine a stronger feeling (definitely involved hormones;-). We have been through so many good times- and bad. We have weathered both, I have the wrinkles to prove it. I think that if someone had sat down my 19 year old self and had given me a list of what we would face and do during these seventeen years I might have run away shrieking, possibly to a nunnery. Yet, our life has been one of joy, of learning, of growing. Life has been filled with the unexpected, it has never been boring! Thank you for sharing your love and your life with me. Thanks for growing up with me, for supporting me in becoming the woman I was meant to be. I am forever grateful for your tru...

We haven't dropped off the face of the earth

We've been busy- and sick. Sadie's class Christmas party. Her favorite teacher ever, Mr. Taylor. Jane examining the results of her science project. Very gross- bacteria from swabs around the house. My laptop keys were surprisingly bacteria free. Ellie warming up after swim therapy. Sawyer modeling Fangs from my Eclipse party. Still need to write about Thanksgiving. The flu has been a frequent, unwelcome visitor at our house for weeks now. That has not been cool. Poor Soy has taken the brunt of it. He's such a good kid, it breaks your heart to see him sick. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Could I Get More Behind?

Weeks and days have passed without a post. I have been overwhelmed with the "catch up" process. I will have to catch up in spurts. Sawyer loves watching the traffic lights and the cars ahead of us. When we were stopped at lights he kept asking "what we waitin' for mom?" so I have been teaching him the rules of the road. Sadie has been teaching him his left and right, so now he watches the GPS and tells me which direction I should go, when I should stop, when I should go. It is too much fun. Ellie is still into Dora in a big way. You can hear her happily repeating "come on, let's go" as she wanders through the house. She has also started saying "Happy" but mostly when she is furious. I know she is recognizing an emotion. It's awesome. Ellie is also sporting the "Dora Do." Aunty Ellynn gave our girl a bob and it is so cute and sassy. Ellie hates to have her hair brushed and now she hates it for a little less time each morning...

Goings on

I feel like I haven't written forever, and I haven't, for real. A brief update- last weekend Mike and I met Kenn, Barb, Marnie, Dave, and Adina up in San Francisco for the weekend. Jane and her friends and my friends did the babysitting for the weekend. Thank goodness for good peeps. We had a really great trip. I love getaways with Mike and it has been a long, long time. My Beth moved to Maryland this week. My running buddy is gone. I am extremely sorrowful. Running buddies have a special place in my heart. I will miss her dearly. We tried to fill up our last week of her being here with as many little activities (mostly workouts) as we could. Many, many great memories, the Lorah family will be missed. I am still struggling with plantar's fasciitis in my heel and that has been a major bummer. I have run a few times in the past week and I don't have too much pain. If it was just the minor pain I could deal, I just don't want any permanent damage. I am so worried ...

I'm Old- Today

I remember when I used to be the one jumping at the chance to go to Midnight movies. Tonight Jane begged to go to the midnight showing of Harry Potter. I am here, having fun, waiting, and thinking how tired I will be all day tomorrow. Oh, for the days of not caring what the consequences might be! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Overachiever

Not to brag or anything, but Jane made 2nd chair in the Monterey County Honor Band. She also managed to bring home straight A's. It is really a pain in the butt keeping her superwoman uniform clean and pressed. We might have to splurge and get her two! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Wrapping up the Last of Halloween

As we have travelled across the U.S. and even across the Atlantic there has been one Halloween tradition that I have always relied on, a certainty that makes Halloween, Halloween. Whether it is 80 degrees and humid, snowing and freezing cold, in a country that does not celebrate Halloween except maybe by sending their children to the crazy Americans for some candy, or in a neighborhood of retired wealthy Carmelites bewildered by this family of imposters. It brings the reality of the season into my home and yet takes me right back to my mom's kitchen. I am back in rainy, overcast Washington on a fall day but I am warm and cozy and home. I anticipate my brown, paper wrapped box with Christmas morning anticipation. It comes, sometimes weeks before Halloween, sometimes just in the nick of time. Sometimes my dad's handwriting spells out our current location, sometimes one of my sisters has been in charge of the mailing. Most of the time, however, it is the neat, beautiful, printing ...

Halloween- oh so overdue

Halloween seemed to last forever this year. Fun but exhausting. We had multiple Halloween parties, Sadie's fall festival, Jane's dance, the ward trunk or treat. I was so grateful that we had decided that we would not Trick or Treat on Sunday. We did have fun though! Jane was a darling hairdresser. She loved the big hair and bright makeup:-) Sadie was a mystical woodland fairy. I LOVED this costume. It was so very Sadie. Our tough little Spiderman. Silly us thinking he might not be able to eat candy. I was a cowgirl. Is it just me or do I look 7 feet tall in this picture? Wait, I know we are missing a child. Little Boo went to school as a Dew Drop but as I was almost to Ellie's school for her class party I received a call. Ellie was sick. I picked up a glassy eyed, feverish, tired, little girl. Luckily Mike strongly suggested I get a Dr. appt. right away and sure enough, we had another case of strep. Ellie spent the weekend sleeping. So sad. - Posted using BlogPress from my ...

A rough time for Sawyer

On the 28th of September (the night of book club) Sawyer was sick with a fever and spent the entire night throwing up, this was a Thursday. On Monday night he was trying to go down to his dad's office in the dark. Sadie was trying to keep him in the house and accidently slammed his pinky finger in the door. This is what it looked like 2 weeks later. It was bad. It looked like a cartoon when a hand gets smashed into the shape of whatever smashed it. We thought for sure that it was broken. We took him to the ER and thankfully it was fine (like a green tree branch being squeezed our Dr. said). Unfortunately Sawyer kept having stomach aches off and on. We took him off the Motrin for his finger (motrin can ravage a belly our friend that is a doctor told us). Finally, after our family doctor and I had conversed on the phone a couple of times we went back in to decide what to do about tummy aches. On a whim (our doc is very smart) Dr. Grey gave Sawyer a strep test, even though his throat ...

My techies

There are a few nights a week that Sawyer gets to sleep with us. Inevitably, when I come out of the bathroom this is what I find. Nerds. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
We loved Sawyer's hair-when it was done. Unfortunately that was only 20% of the time. The rest of the time he looked like an orphan. You know, after nap, at the bus stop in the morning and at the gym, oh and the errands after the gym. So we got sick of poofy crazy hair and decided it was time- I think this kid has only had four haircuts in his life and you could tell. He was psycho. Touch ups will take place tomorrow. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Our Young Women Overnighter

We had a back to school sleep over for the girls up at Spencer Ranch. This is me giving a wise and knowledgeable lesson on the Gospel being like archery. Aiming for the target, faith that the arrow will reach its target, practice, standing firm, etc... Really, I was amazing. This is me being Katniss Everdeen. Don't know who Katniss is? Read Hunger Games. Amanda Traywick The end of game night. Edie and Jane making s'mores. Amy Traywick Xochitl Ruiz Our girls being Katniss. Stephanie Snyder, our lovely president. I stole these pics from her blog. Jane and I were bow and arrow challenged, but we made progress. POSTED BY Stephanie Snyder
