Hot, sunny, summer days

It almost never happens here, but it is in the 80s and 90s and it is warm- for us. I don't mind, as long as I can hang out in the shade while the kids play in the water table, I'm happy. It doesn't bother my sleep either, I wish I could say the same for the rest of my little family. Now our run this morning was a little too warm for me, which is scary because I know St. George will probably be warmer. We ran 12 miles and I was pretty much hating life the whole time. We ran 16 last week and I felt GREAT!!! Of course this is also the week that two of Mike's buddies joined us on the run and I felt like the gasping, whimpy wife trailing oh, so slightly behind (and occasionally not quite so slightly). It serves me right, I did not train like I should have this past week. I became complacent. Busy too, but I was being lazy and only fit in a couple of short runs, rationalizing that this was our light week. If you aren't paddling upstream your floating down the r...

Happenings at our house

We've gone for walks. Hung out on the couch with Ellyn. Played ball in the house ! Said goodbye to Rebecca. Started school. Got caught sneaking m&m's. Got a black eye (not for sneaking m&m's). He did something in the playroom, we don't know what! Mike and I have run- alot. Hung out with friends. Nothing too exciting, but hey, we're happy.

I started Jane's Story on Monday,

it has been waiting all week for me to finish it. I have wanted to fill in other details of our lives but, frankly, I've been too tired. Mike has had to stay up till all hours doing homework and I have chosen to go to bed at 9:30. I know, it's been awesome. Unfortunately I actually haven't felt anymore awake than when I get 5 hours asleep. I just hope it is helping my body in a deep and lasting way. Because... I ran 15 miles on Saturday. It's true. I did it. Now I just have to find another 10 somewhere inside me. Besides that, all of the kids are now in school, even Ellyn. Sawyer and I are back to our "mommy and me" time. It's pretty cool.

Jane's Birth Story

This year I am going to try to record all of my children's birth stories on or around their birthday. Hopefully I will get them all down. It was always one of the best parts of my birthday, when mom would tell my birth story. I haven't been as consistent, but at least now it will be in print right? Blog Readers, please don't feel obligated to read I can remember the day I found out I was pregnant with Jane. It was December 11th, 1995. I had found a pregnancy test in my medicine cabinet, but it didn't have the box (I don't remember why). I took the test before I went to work that night at Brick Oven. I was pretty sure it indicated I was pregnant but I wanted to be positive so I drove to Smith's and read the back of the pregnancy test box. It indicated that it was indeed positive and I was thrilled. I started to walk away and then I just had to be really sure, I turned back and read it again. I did the same thing again, walking away and coming back, two...

Happy Birthday Sweet, sweet, Jane!

We love you and we wish that we could keep you from growing up into a teenager. I'm sure you will be a great one though!

You say tomato I say tomahto

Mike thinks that picture is cute and says " attitude ." I'm fairly certain it screams "I am a tired old witch wearing a sombrero because I left my pointy hat at home and feel absolutely naked without it." I am quite certain that anyone that is honest and a true friend will agree with me.

Happy Birthday Brooke

Aaahhh!

I am finally breathing a deep and satisfying sigh of relief. Today is over, the week is over. Not that I am anxious for next week to begin, no, I'm not ready for school to start on Wednesday. Uh uh, not at all. But... this past week.... Today I had to give a talk AND teach Young Womens AFTER doing the activity Wednesday night. Toss on top of that registering Sadie at her new school, school supply shopping, closing out our old house (FINALLY- scheduling conflicts), interviewing and trying out a new Respite person for Ellyn because Rebecca thinks she needs to move to another country and have an adventure:), and knowing that Saturday morning you have a ten mile run and that is the farthest you've ever gone and you put that all together and well, let's just say it wasn't a "feeling right at ease" sort of week. The Low Down I think my talk went well, okay I'm faking humility. My talk went very well. I can say that, I worked hard on it, I prayed about it...

Morning Run

Brooke running past the famous 6th hole and the lone Cyprees tree at Pebble Beach on our long Saturday morning run where we traverse the course to get from Carmel to the coastal road. Wow, that is a long, incomplete sentence! -- Post From My iPhone

Frustration...

spending two hours shopping with four kids, including one toddler of the male variety that was so crazy I wanted to stab myself in the eye with a fork and coming away with one mediocre pair of shoes and one semi cute top (and none of it is even for me). Do I really have to go to the outlet malls on a Saturday????

World According to Sadie

What's up Sadie? Sadie: I'm watching a movie. Castaways. It's about these people traveling, trying to find their father who everyone thinks is dead. What did you do today that was exciting? Sadie:Well, I got two small littlest pet shops. Why? Sadie: Because I did like a thousand levels of swordplay on the wii and my arms were numb from doing it and dad forced me to do it. Was dad going to beat you or something? Sadie: He said I had to do it. Why? Sadie: Because I was getting really good at it. I see, anything else exciting? Sadie: I got registered for school. Are you pretty happy about that? Sadie: I'm happy... and nervous. Anything else you want to share? Sadie: I'm getting a present for my mom and my sister and me to share for their birthdays. I've got to wrap it in some present paper. Something's weird because it just was Halloween and it is almost Halloween. I'm really sad because Camille (the girl down the street) is gone on vacation and I miss...

Saturday Night

So... I'm sitting on the couch watching Coach and laughing my butt off. Mike's laying here next to me fast asleep. Jane and Sadie are having a sleepover in Jane's room. We just ate about 10 warm chocolate chip cookies a piece with tall glasses of milk. Hmmmm.... life is good. This morning I drove up to Girls' Camp and picked up a group of tired, happy campers. Jane and the other girls spent the entire ride home telling all about their camp adventures. They were so cute. We're so happy to have Jane home for good. The last few days have been busy- aquarium, horse therapy, Dennis the Menace park. We have had alot of fun, even if Sawyer did fall into a pile of horse poop. My battery is about to die and I am not going across the room to get my charger. That's all folks!
