Hiatus

The thought of catching up has been very daunting.  I have found myself procrastinating, rationalizing, dramatizing, all sorts of "ing" but no writing.  So we are going to just say this past summer was a hiatus, "a missing piece or an interruption in the intensity or amount of something."  I think we can all agree that this is indeed what Breezy Fields has experienced the past SEVERAL months.  Sure, I have thrown a post or two on in a weak attempt to get back in the saddle again, but it has been, just that- WEAK.  My hope is that this is it, I am back.  I can keep an account of my little family and not regret letting my blog gather dust and cobwebs, hidden under a mending pile in the back of a closet (I don't know why I have a mending pile. Things really just stay there until they are so out of style I have no guilt, okay maybe a teensy twinge, when I finally load it into the Goodwill pile).  My blog will be shiny, new, sparkly, and maybe I can even manage to change the family picture that is over two years old.  I'm sure my fifteen year old just loves it.  Plus, I hate my arms in that picture.  Really, I have some decent arms right now and those arms just make me cringe.  I had better get going.  I do not want to catch up on today, tomorrow.

I mentioned my fifteen year old.  I have one of those now.  I'm pretty much being cursed for my incredibly lackadaisical attitude in high school by raising a child that is in every way completely opposite. Not every way, all of the sudden the world revolves around friends and a social life and I do remember that.  Jane spends HOURS considering every decision she is making regarding school.  High School is simply a culmination of events that will eventually lead to a pot of gold at the end of the Rainbow- BYU. May I start praying now that the girl gets in?  If she doesn't, I fear greatly.  Jane is taking Honors Biology, Honors English, Honors World Studies, and Geometry.  Wait, the Honors World Studies is next semester, thankfully.  She is also taking Treble Choir and then here is our problem- band.  She wants to continue with the flute BUT the band is not the cool band of Carmel High School, it is the "nerdy" band AND it plays at the football games.  This of course means you don't sit with your friends.  You sit with the band.  Confession, at her age I would not have been caught dead in the band.  However, at the wise old age of 37 I see the error of my ways (not that I could have played in the band anyway, kazoo anyone?).  I fear that once she decides not to do band her days of playing the flute will go by the wayside.  I have searched for teachers but have not found one in the area.  It breaks my heart to let her decide she wants to do digital photography instead of band but I think that's what is going to happen (she does have a great eye and has taken some amazing pictures).   All that talent, all those hours... It nearly kills me. Ah well, (here I would add a deep and profound quote or a great witty one if I could come up with one).  We all must live our lives and parents can't fix all the mistakes they made for their children, as much as we may desire to do so.  I just hope it isn't a regret she has later.  Besides the agonizing Jane has gone through and drug me through over her freshman class schedule, life is pretty dang sweet for our girl.  She has made AMAZING friends, is on the stake youth activities committee, and is pretty much only home when she has to be.  This past year has been quite the change.  I'm trying to keep up.  The funny thing is, I know exactly how she feels.  I was just there, twenty three years ago, but really it was just yesterday.  I hope she continues to make the good choices she has made up till now, I have every expectation that she will.

Sadie is my awesome helper, if I want to make Jane annoyed (yes, I'm that immature) I just call Sadie the new Jane.  It's true though, she is my "go to" girl, she has stepped up to the challenge.  It is her time to be my "deployment husband."  She is such a loving and devoted sister to Ellyn, she is Sawyer's unending source of all things fun and magical and adventurous, and she is my little errand runner and partner in crime.  She's a fun kid and I like hanging out with her.  She was nervous the first day of school but she has great friends in the neighborhood (all a year younger) and seems to have quickly settled in at school.

Okay, that's it for tonight.  I have a 4:30 wake up call.  I wake up when Jane wakes up for seminary.  I can only hope that she soon figures out that 5:00 is a way better time to wake up.  In the mean time I fade very rapidly come 10:00.  So, here's to many future blog entries, and good night.

I'd like to put in my request for an 8 x 10 picture of your family when you take it so that we can get rid of the outdated one in our front hallway!!!! :~)

2018 and Another Go!

For almost three years I have been thinking how very sad it is that I hadn't continued to keep a journal of our family activities.  No more deployment letters and emails to Mike, no more family blog to keep grandparents and aunts and uncles connected to our family.  Nothing but printed off monthly calendars saved in a file somewhere.  I guess our family blog died a slow death when we lived in Washington and we were seeing everyone all of the time.  It just was not important to keep everyone informed.  They were right there with us.  I did not stop, in all the chaos, to think how very important the blog might be to me, or to my children.  I have often thought of the cute pictures and quotes we had saved on our family blog.  I thought of the interviews I did with the kiddos, and how grateful I was that, somewhere, on a dusty webpage, those beautiful faces, those funny antics, still existed.  I have checked to make sure the blog still existed fr...

MICHAEL IS COMING HOME TOMORROW!!

My Michael is coming home . You can't just say it. You have to SING it. Tomorrow my tall, strong, gorgeous, husband will be here and it will be beautiful. He will nestle into the life of our family and we will have him with us, here, in our house, in our family . He'll help put on jammies and read stories, and tutor Jane in math. He'll take me on dates and wrestle at least one child during sacrament meeting. He'll snuggle me in bed at night and nuzzle my neck while I'm doing dishes. We'll go for walks and play games and watch movies and do fun family Saturday stuff. He'll help carry a kid down to the car and then he'll drive while I put on my makeup ! We love him, we know how much he loves us. We can't wait! Don't worry, I won't work him to death. I won't make him cook dinner every night for the next 10 months or hand over the kids and take off to the spa for the weekend (tempting, but... no). We just want him HERE. I kee...
November 7, 2020, My Beautiful and Wise Daughter, Jane. I can breathe again. I won't be going to bed with my stomach in knots and my whole body feeling tight. I won’t be listening to a President who gains momentum by tearing others down. I won’t be going to sleep worrying that my children won’t have clean water to drink or clean air to breathe. I won’t be going to sleep thinking about the horrific experiences of children being torn from their mother’s and father’s arms because they were seeking refuge. I won’t be living in fear of the rapidly-growing racist attitudes and prejudice—that someday harm would come upon my baby that I have now and my future children. That my sister and my cousin and others that I love won’t be stripped of their rights and feel like they are any less of a human being than the rest of us. If this election wasn’t going to change anything for you and if you didn’t see the harm that Trump was causing, that is great and I’m sincerely glad that you have that p...
