On the 28th of September (the night of book club) Sawyer was sick with a fever and spent the entire night throwing up, this was a Thursday. On Monday night he was trying to go down to his dad's office in the dark. Sadie was trying to keep him in the house and accidently slammed his pinky finger in the door. This is what it looked like 2 weeks later.
It was bad. It looked like a cartoon when a hand gets smashed into the shape of whatever smashed it. We thought for sure that it was broken. We took him to the ER and thankfully it was fine (like a green tree branch being squeezed our Dr. said). Unfortunately Sawyer kept having stomach aches off and on. We took him off the Motrin for his finger (motrin can ravage a belly our friend that is a doctor told us). Finally, after our family doctor and I had conversed on the phone a couple of times we went back in to decide what to do about tummy aches. On a whim (our doc is very smart) Dr. Grey gave Sawyer a strep test, even though his throat never hurt. It came back positive. Poor kid had strep for over two weeks without us knowing what was going on.
Our next concern was that it would effect his tonsilectomy scheduled just 9 days from appt. day. Our surgeon told us he would be fine. Five days after our strep test we were back at the doc with an infection in Sawyer's banged up finger (now that it was unwrapped). Two different antibiotics but the surgeon said surgery was still a go.
