This has been a week of the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Mike- has spent the week studying long, long hours for midterms. He has been tired and stressed. Today, with everything finally done he was able to relax and by relax I mean he washed and vacuumed both of our cars and worked out- hey, it wasn't school related. He continues to shed the pounds and has become a convert to healthy eating. Not really something I ever thought I would see on this earth. It's pretty cool and we've really enjoyed doing this "diet" together.
Jane- has her big Honor's Band Concert tomorrow afternoon and for the last several days she has been gone into the late evening or afternoon (depending on the day) practicing her little heart out. She told me today, with a little chuckle, that she never wants to see a flute again. We've sent her off to school every day with extra snacks, water, and a tube of blistex. I am excited for the concert tomorrow. I can't wait to see what they can do. Unfortunately Jane also had one of her close friends turn on her this week (thanks to a lovely girl that did this to Jane last year with a different friend, can I just say that I can't stand most middle school girls). Anyway, there have been tears and a great deal of heartache at our house when Jane has been home. What stinks is that these days the fights go to texts and Facebook. We had to delete comments and friends off of Facebook and I had to go visit Jane's old friend's mom about some threatening texts that Jane's former friend's friend sent impersonating herself as Jane's friend's mom. Did you get all that? It has been loverly. Tonight Janie is having a great sleepover at the home of her very faithful friend, Edie. Mike kept asking Jane what started it all and I kept telling him, "Nothing needs to start it when it comes to girls, they just get together and start talking bad about a friend and then it just escalates." He says girls are dumb and I have to agree. Jane is such a great girl though, she still tries to stay happy and positive, she has been waking up early at least four days a week to work out before school, and she is so loving to her brother and sisters. She will be an absolutely amazing woman.
Sadie- is still living in the world of Greek gods and goddesses. She has read the entire Lightning Thief series and when she tried to read another book she just wasn't ready. She begged to read Lightening Thief again and so that is what she is doing. She's so cute. Tonight she is at a Daddy Daughter Dance at her school. Mike will post a picture but they look so handsome and beautiful. Sadie wore her red velvet sparkly Christmas dress and we painted her fingernails and did her hair and I made a corsage and a boutonniere with my friend Jen this afternoon. Mike made sure he wore his dark red tie so they coordinated and were appropriately Valentine's-ish. What a good husband I have. I can't wait for the report.
Ellyn- We started off the week with Ellyn's big annual review (IEP meeting). It is exciting to see the areas where Ellyn has really developed. She has progressed in some amazing ways lately. Even in the past couple of weeks she has started spending hours and hours PLAYING WITH TOYS in the playroom. She has also started gathering the entire family for at least a half an hour of "Ring Around the Rosies." She loves it, she laughs and jumps as she makes her circles. She vocalizes the entire time, making happy and somewhat comprehensible sounds. She will place our hands in each other's hands and nod and gesture until we begin. She's so smart! She has also absolutely loved our afternoon walks, the whole family loves them now actually. We all go and I'm pretty sure our neighbor's think we're crazy. On Tuesday Sawyer and I joined her class at the Monterey Aquarium and we had a really great time. Also, I was able to take Sawyer and Ellyn to Target the other day and I didn't even have to use a cart. Sawyer walked along side and Ellyn held my hand the entire time (we kept Juliet strapped to her back just in case). It was such a great, hassle free experience.
Sawyer- continues to amaze us with his kindness, his smarts, his agility, his vocabulary, his... everything. He has really started pretending a lot with his "Bat House." It is a game that includes Batman, Joker, Iceman, Penguin, and also a few Transformers. Sawyer's favorite movies right now are Transformers and Iron Man. Yes, both violent movies. We're scarring him for life. He loves to push his trains and his cars all through the house and takes them with him in his backpack (the one you made Meg) to all the different places I drag him in a day. He has begun to attempt to put his shoes on, which usually ends up with two different shoes ALWAYS on the wrong feet. He goes to sleep in his own bed but always joins us in the middle of the night.
I have been attempting to keep up with everything that has been going on this week. I've spent time running, cleaning, shopping, going to meetings, etc... My friend Beth came over on Tuesday and helped me do all sorts of little projects, it was awesome. There is something about running buddies, they're amazing. Maybe she is just trying to make up for all the mornings she tries to kill me on our runs. Speaking of which, we are meeting at 5:15 tomorrow morning for 12 miles and I am going to go to bed.
